Pupils Having Difficulty Learning
In addition to the principles of language learning, language learning for pupils having difficulty
* learning English is most effective when pupils:
* have many opportunities to learn by doing
* develop high esteem of themselves as language learners
* focus on fluency rather than on accuracy
* have tools for organizing their learning
* are exposed to the same content in different modes and contexts
* have a variety of opportunities for interacting and reading
* are given more time to master basic skills
* are exposed to a wide variety of visual support
* are given the opportunity to listen and talk about the content being read
* are given opportunities for growth and development

* encourage pupils to use English freely
* incorporates the teaching of learning and study skills
* present and review the same context in different ways
* focus more on the domains of social interaction and access to information
* teach the basic reading and writing skills in a gradual, recursive manner,
* integrate visual support and kinesthetic cues into the content being taught
* reinforces reading through listening and speaking activities
* have high expectations of their pupils and demand accordingly
